In the Name of Time - Artists Group Exhibition
Mar 13 - Apr 10, 2021
Time is an abstract noun, one that is never absent in our lives. However, have you ever thought of using time other than for the purposes of making appointments, arranging itineraries, and calculating the duration of something? What else can you do with time? From 3/13 (Sat) to 4/10 (Sat), 2021, “In the Name of Time – Artists Group Exhibition” organized by Soka Art will feature remarkable works by 10 prominent artists from Japan and Korea, including Naoki Koide, Moon Bongsun, Kosuke Nagata, Ji Yongho, Teppei Kaneuji, Chiho Aoshima, Kang Misun, Masahiko Kuwahara, Daido Moriyama, and Jeong Jinyong (ordered based on the number of strokes in their surname). The exhibition is centered around five major themes: “Frozen in Time”, “Stacking of Time”, “Contrast of Time”, “Heritage of Time”, and “Condensation of Time”. Let’s take a look to see how the artists narrate different stories of life in the name of time. -
Literati Painting From Six Artists
Oct 08 - Dec 18, 2016
For the 15th anniversary of Soka Beijing, we selected 6 particularly representative artists who embody an “Eastern Culture Spirit”: Liang Quan (1940s), Hong Ling (1950s), Moon Bong-Sun (1960s), Zeng Jianyong and Tan Jun (1970s), and Wang Mengsha (1980s). This event attempts to explore different art styles through the works of these 6 artists from different eras, outlining the constantly developing, diverse, and three-dimensional appearances of contemporary Eastern ink-wash painting. -
Brush sings and Ink dances - Moon Bong Sun Solo Exhibition
May 27 - Jul 03, 2016
Moon Bong-sun’s work is always vacant or full. A plane unfolding in his work will appear empty or covered with dense fog. Landscapes he depicts appear complete and not fragmented. In Moon’s work, a part is an extension of the whole. A lonely tree stands on a horizontal plane, and tall weeds flourish. His landscapes appear subdued. Unfolding planes are serene within the dim view. Tranquil landscapes appear exceptionally lonesome. The remaining trace of a setting sunlight ripples through our heart like the tide. -
A Window to the World - Asia’s New Trend
Jul 04 - Aug 09, 2015
This exhibition focuses on the concept of Asian contemporary art. Soka is the first art gallery to introduce Southeast Asian art to galleries in Taiwan, showing works from Indonesian artist Agus Suwage, Thai artist Natee Utarit and Filipino artist Gabriel Barredo. Their unique styles are ahead of their times, yet incorporated with local cultures and traditions. Soka has a close relationship with the art industry in Japan and Korea. We have hosted tours for prominent minimalist Korean artists, becoming the very first art organization in Taiwan to exhibit Korean minimalist works. This time, we present Park Seo Bo’s famous “Ecriture” series from his earlier works and contemporary Korean ink artist Moon Bong Sun’s works. Representing the Japanese contemporary art are works of Yayoi Kusama and Yoshitomo Nara, who both are trend-setting and well-known artists. -
