Jan 23 - Feb 28, 2016

Soka Art Taipei

Soka Art Taipei has invited Chinese artist, Zhao Bo, to hold a solo exhibition in Taiwan. Zhao Bo - Ideological Image will be held from January 23 to February 28, and the opening reception will be held on January 23 at 4pm. Featuring a new series of works, this solo exhibition will be the first exhibition that Zhao has held at Soka Art Taipei since 2012, four years ago. Furthermore, in accordance with this exhibition content, Soka has meticulously planned Great Artists – Family Painting Activity on January 23, the opening day. Artists will lead parents and children in creating paintings together, sparking creativity for one another to serve as a promotion of arts education and an attempt at ingraining art.

Unique Creative Style, Auction Hits Record High

Born in Shenyang in 1984, Zhao Bo was the first artist that was eligible as a student for the exchange program at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Norway. In 2011, Zhao went to Norway for learning exchange. That same year, Zhao obtained his master's degree in oil painting from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. He is one of China’s high-profile emerging artists, as well as one of the few young Chinese artists under contract at Soka. In recent years, Zhao’s true/false, illusory theme style has been well-received by the market. In 2015, Forest of Desires No.2 was sold for HKD 400 thousand, over twice the estimated price, setting a new record in the auction market.

Honesty is Most Important in Art, View Your Life Honestly

This exhibition displays Zhao Bo’s works from 2009-2015, including everyone's favorite series, Socrates’ Prophecy, Revelation, and Forest of Desires. Since Zhao’s works have always embodied self-growth, when a series enters the mature stage, it will transform along with personal experience, thereby opening a new and profound creative evolution. Thus, after 2014, Zhao started to reflect on his works and make breakthroughs, painting the new series, A Beautiful New World and A Moveable Feast. The structure of these series of works is no longer barren or realistic. Zhao believes that the inspiration for artistic creation is ultimately derived from the real world around us. Thus, he shifted from the theme of the demise of human life to the manifestation of the brilliant colors that inundate modern society. Like being engulfed by the dazzling lights and sound effects at a concert, humans will gradually fade away in radiance, forming obscure shadows. Want to understand how artist Zhao interprets the brazenness and sensation of a psychedelic life? Then, do not miss Zhao Bo - Ideological Image.
