A Solemn Will in Daily Life

Mao Xuihui believes that art can help us more clearly understand nature and human will, he illustrates both life and nature. Painting guaranteed that he would have the power to face the profound memories that life throws at him, and have the power to strive in expressing them – strive, because all this is not easy. A set pattern is not readily available for one to get close to a feeling. One must create works in the state of insecurity, to paint paintings, experience, and create new experiences as to express the things that life has given him into a powerful painting.”

Painting nature, he likes Guishan most, On one hand, he enjoyed the tranquility of comfort in this ancient land. On the other hand, Guishan kept correcting his perspective of nature. Guishan Series of the 1980’s, creating a surreal dream for him and his audience.Today, “Guishan” was no longer the need for literary or artistic youth, but the general needs for modern cities.

Painting Life, His works are always looking for proof of the existence of flesh and spirit, and an exit for lonely and repressed souls. The individual repression in Private Space, restless anxiety in Daily Epic, questioning of authority in Parent, cold isolation in Scissors, appeased souls in Place to Bury, "forever" questioning in Fallen Armchair and Purple serve as a blessing and tribute to the young designer that once lived life seriously.

He has seemingly been writing epics to depict the experiences in his daily life. His attitude towards life also transformed from subtle observations into easy-to-understand terms. He could not help but desire various stimuli from life to serve as the most reliable materials for his art, and subvert the secular standards of performance in the form of pictures. The various components of life in Mao’s works were the most particular lives in that private space. These lives are even more real and specific than us. A serious attitude towards life is solemn, while the obscurity of life provides a testimony to the solemnity of everyday objects.
